LightWild Illuminates Lobbies of O2 World Arena in Berlin
Innovative LED manufacturer unveils five-surface architectural lighting project
Sept. 15, 2008
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. LightWild today announced the completion of an interior lighting project for the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany. The significant wall and ceiling installations throughout the main and VIP lobby entrances embrace visitors with light, color, and effects in the arena that opened Sept. 10, 2008.
In the main lobby, two walls feature thousands of frosted circular lenses that diffuse graphics and video effects from LightWild Pixels while the ceiling's blue and white fluorescent tubes are controlled and coordinated for an all encompassing experience. Guests in the VIP lobby have a similar wall and ceiling lighting experience as they enter the arena and travel escalators to the VIP lounge and main concourse.
"We are thrilled to have participated in the arena project," says Tom Stafford, President of LightWild. "What an experience for the attendees to walk in the arena for an Eisbären Berlin game and have light energize you before the game or event even begins."
The O2 World Arena is owned and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group. The architects on the project were Populous and JSK Architects. The designers of the lobby projects were Tropp Lighting Design and Schmidhuber & Partner. The arena also includes one of the world's largest architectural lighting grids that LightWild designed in conjunction with the arena's architects and owners. The massive grid is seamlessly integrated into the south exterior glass facade.
